Kanchenjunga the Long way
33 Days: 28 Days Full Service Tented Trekking to both Base Camps
From only $2,199 per person, fully inclusive
Real Adventure? Yeah! No Coke, No chocolate bars, No teahouses. And very few other trekkers. Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak on the planet, is far more remote and far less visited than Everest. The trails are demanding, and you make high ascents to two base camps and cross a difficult pass between them. Even the maps of the area are inaccurate.
But what adventure and personal reward! The great variety of people and cultures, terrains, flora and fauna, plus the great mountains, make this an unbeatable program for the hardy and adventurous trekker.
The Kanchenjunga area in Nepal's far East is spectacular, challenging, and relatively untraveled. You will walk in through the culturally interesting mid-hills from Tumlingtar and Chainpur, then up the Tamur and Ghunsa River valleys to the north Base Camp at Pangpema. Then back south to Ghunsa and over either the Mirgin La or Lapsang La passes. From there you'll climb again, now on the south side of the massif, to the south Base Camp near Oktang. The Yalung glacier here is a bit tricky, so the south Base Camp has to be "conditions permitting". Then south to Taplejung where the trek ends and you fly out.
This program includes a full tented camp and all transportation food, and staff: a professional, English-speaking guide and Sherpas, cook and kitchen crew, trekking permits, park fees and taxes; Hotel, breakfasts, and sightseeing in Kathmandu.
