The prayer wheel is an ever-present part of Tibetan life. This is a hand-held version. Devout Buddhists spend hours praying by spinning the wheel clockwise. Pilgrims journey with the wheel in constant motion. There is a scroll of prayers tightly wound inside the cylinder. The prayers are dispatched to heaven with each turn of the wheel.
