The monastery is perched on a rocky ledge with a sheer drop of nearly 4,000 feet. In the 8th century, Guru Padmasambhava flew here on a tiger's back to found the monastery. |  |

The author is our friend Stan Armington, who also wrote the Lonely Planet's Nepal trekking guide. It's well worth buying or taking out from the library. Francoise Pommaret's BHUTAN is also wonderful -- also a guide, but focused on the places and culture, with very detailed descriptions. |
