The less-traveled west side of the Everest region has a destination equivalent to Kala Pattar, Gokyo Ri. "Ri" in Sherpa means hill, though it is nearly 18000 feet / 5500 meters tall, like Kala Pattar. Equivalent views of Everest (but from a bit farther away) and wonderful views westward too, plus beautiful alpine lakes.
