Mera La

Fabulous views, far from the crowded trails to Base Camp. The trek goes east from Lulka towards Mera Peak, climbs the Mera La pass, and then back to Lukla in a quick but spectacular trek.

 

Day 1

Fly to Lukla. Begin trekking steeply up the ridge behind town through pine and rhodhodendron forests then through yak pasture to a campsite at Chutenga Kharka (3450 m)..

Day 2

Climb farther to the Tserera La, a series of three passes at 4492 m. Descend into the Hinku valley and camp at Chetara (4210 m.)

Day 3

Climb over a rocky ridge at 4520 m. then descend to the river and climb again to Kote at 3540 m.

Day 4

Climb through forest patches and yak pasture to Duphu Gompa (monastery). Trek on to Tangnag at 4230 m. This is a popular summer spot for locals. Mountain views!!

Day 5

Climb through on rough trail to Dik Kharka, then ascend a ridge towards the Mera La to camp at the yak pastures of Khare 4860 m.

Day 6

Climb up the Mera La at 5540 m and return to Khare.

Day 7

Trek down to Tashidingma at about 4000 m. The air will feel positively thick!

Day 8

Trek back to Chetara.

Day 9

Cross the Tserera La and return to Lukla..

Day 10

Fly to Kathmandu.
